O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
Today is Wednesday. Yes, today I’m writing this blog post and you’ll read it some time today. I don’t normally operate this way with the blog, but the blog has become too much of a chore. Everything I write seems to be about me, this whole blog is just one gigantic biography as it were. But, that’s why things are changing now, that’s why I’m writing on the day of, and not the day before.
This change will help me refocus the attention of this blog from myself to God. In the scripture passage above David asks us to soften out hearts to the voice of God. Selfishness is a great enemy of God because it hardens our hearts to Him. Selfishness shuts God out of our lives. But, this passage starts with David on his knees, praising God. David left off any selfishness when he got down on his knees.
In this passage, there are 3 character types I want to point out. The first is the servant: “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.” Bow before the LORD our maker. A servant delights in pleasing his master, the servant bows.
The other character type we see is the sheep. The passage says: “For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.” We praise Him because He is Lord, but also because He is our shepherd. He protects His sheep and holds them secure in His hand.
The third character type is the statue of stone: “To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your heart,” the voice of God is not always so far away as we think, but if we built a stone shell around our hearts, it can take a while for someone to break through. Don’t be a statue of stone when I comes to hearing God’s voice. Don’t let you heart become hard to God.
As always, thanks for reading.
