Crying inside, mad at myself, angry at God.
My alarm didn’t go off today, not that I slept through it, or hat I didn’t set one, it didn’t go off and I slept right up until we had to leave. I missed breakfast, the fellowship and conversation of the team, and barely caught the morning devotional. I spent all my time this morning, which wasn’t much, writing and attempting to relay my thoughts. I had someone grab me a few slices of plain bread to eat so I wouldn’t pass out today. Mike Partain bought me a Mountain Dew, sweet man, and we hit the road with fire in our bellies for the work ahead.
We were greeted at hope by 13 happy, healthy African children! They sang us a song and the hope on their faces: you couldn’t help but smile in return. They blessed us with several songs that they sang and we sang with them. These kids are our legacy, they will continue our work here, and seeing the growth in them in just a year, it’s amazing! There were more than a few tears shed among the team, especially among the members who had never seen these kids, their love for total strangers. God used these kids to a blessing when we thought we came to bless them.
Due to our ministry’s regulation on media on Hope property, only the media authorized members of the team were allowed to capture footage of this. So none of this was taken by myself.
One of the first things you’ll notice after staying on Hope property for a decent length of time is that there is not a bathroom at Hope, but there is a pit toilet.
Pit toilet: a concrete room with a single hole in the floor, sitting on top of a large pit in the ground.
Essentially it’s a stripped down porta-potty. You will never meet a greater “hold your breath challenge” than when you use a pit toilet.
The women’s ministry that the ladies of the team went to accomplish was as much a blessing to our women as it was to the Ugandans. Mom told a story after the conference of how they gave each of the 180 women a gift, some hotel soap, a toothbrush, and toothpaste. Something as small and insignificant as that could be used in such a powerful way! As the story goes, there was a group of women laughing after the conference. Mom went over to ask them why they were laughing and it was because they had never smelled anything as good as soap before. They were so happy they couldn’t stop laughing. Something as small as soap could bring something as big as hope to these women.
In other news, the team from Atlanta finally arrived at Hope! Now all except Vicki are here safe and sound. We are still praying Vicki arrives quickly and in good spirits to begin ministering to the people of Uganda! The luggage of the Atlanta team is lost somewhere between here and Washington D.C.. We hope it finds its way here soon as many of the medical supplies are in the luggage.
As always, thanks for reading.

America. This is July 4th, the day we celebrate our independence: our nation’s birthday. What does that mean? Who cares.
Really, does it matter why you celebrate or what you celebrate about this country? I would say no. As much as I’m all for celebrating our independence, celebrating the men and women who came before us: our founding fathers, as much as I am a patriotic person and proud to be an American, I would still say that it doesn’t really matter why you celebrate the Fourth of July. Why is that? Primarily, because of this one thing: to celebrate July 4th is to be an American citizen who recognizes that on this day we became free. Today is a memorial day. You can’t celebrate the Fourth of July in any other country for the same reason.
One of my favorite trick questions to ask people is “do they have a Fourth of July in England?”. 90% of the time everyone says “no”. The trick part of the question is that they have a 4th of July in every country, they just don’t celebrate it; so yes, England does have a 4th of July. The difference between July 4th in any other country and July 4th in America is that it doesn’t mean anything to anyone anywhere else. That makes this day special regardless of what you think of when you celebrate the Fourth of July, regardless of if you even know what men and women had to go through to establish freedom in this country.
More than anything, the Fourth of July stands for liberty from tyrants, and America has always been about that. The separatists, the pilgrims that first founded this great nation did so because they had fled tyrannical rule in England that infringed upon their religious liberty. The colonials, the first Americans who sought to separate themselves from England did so to escape tyrannical rule that oppressed their moral liberty; in the English hierarchy all men were not created equal.
This country stands for liberty, but will this be the last Fourth of July that we can truly celebrate independence and freedom. Not independence or freedom; not independence as well as freedom, but independence along with freedom. There’s a narrow line in which few have ever been that presents the correct relationship between independence and freedom.
Independence is a separated state of being that allows one to be totally dependent upon themselves.
Freedom is the ability to live however you want to live, without a government, without a religion, without anyone or anything telling you different.
When the nation is independent, the nation is free; but often when the people are independent the people are not free. If everyone is left to live their own life and do their own thing, without fail they will attempt to infringe upon, and destroy the freedoms of others: it’s human nature. Celebrate this day while you can. Celebrate America just because it is America, never mind your reason, celebrate America however you want for whatever reason you wish on this day, and do so in freedom.
Now for the kicker: if you are living in America or perhaps are even an American citizen, and I won’t discriminate, even up to the president himself, if you live under our sky, and our laws, and on our land, you will respect our flag, and our independence. If you can’t respect our country and our flag, then you can go live somewhere else.
Happy 4th everyone. God bless America!
As always, thanks for reading.

Welcome back to Movie Review Mondays! This week, rather than reviewing a film, I reviewed a filmmaker; one of the best in Christian film today: Dave Christiano. The name Christiano is legend to young Christian filmmakers for the duo of brothers Dave and Rich that rocketed the CFI (Christian Film Industry) standard of excellence beyond anything that had been seen before in the industry.
Dave and Rich were a dynamic duo as a filmmaking team but several years back they both began directing their own films. Interested in the why and how all of this came about and specifically if this split off of the brothers into their own film groups effected Dave’s approach to filmmaking, I had the chance to ask him several questions about the situation last week.
Me: You and your brother Rich made films together for several years but then split to form your own film companies. Now that you’re on your own, so to speak, what is your personal mission for making films and how do you hope to accomplish that mission?
Dave: My brother Rich and I started in the Christian film industry in 1985 and
produced our first 3 films together. We then set up two separate
production companies where each brother would direct his own films, but we
continue to work together on many of the projects. We
also work together on distribution and have since the beginning. Our
personal mission is the same as it’s been since day one: produce movies
with a direct message for Jesus Christ for evangelism or Christian living.
The objective and goal have not changed and we don’t plan for it to.Me: I’ve heard that you are taking a unique approach to distribution with your latest project. Tell me a little about that.
Dave: This new movie, “Remember the Goal”, is coming to theaters ONLY on Aug 26th. No DVD and no VOD. Just theaters. We are going back to the way it was when
we first started, which was just public performance. Back then it was
church rentals, now it is theaters. The distribution of movies has gotten
very difficult for a Christian film producer. If people want to continue
to see Christ-centered films produced, they need to support the ones that
truly are.
You may have noticed that Dave used the phrase “Christ-centered films”, but what does that really mean? Does it just mean Christian films or is there something more significant about it? What defines a Christ-centered film, and what are the necessary criteria that a film must meet to be considered centered around Christ? These were all good questions I asked and he responded with some very surprising answers. Dave’s perspective on life and particularly visual media is unique and refreshing. The more I spoke with him, the more I admired the man’s conviction and passion to make God-honoring films.
Dave: Hollywood and many in the industry have coined the phrase “faith-based”
films. Let me translate that: it means “no Jesus and no gospel”. We use
the phrase Christ-centered as meaning a movie with a specific message to
point viewers to Jesus Christ, either for evangelism or Christian living.
But, if for Christian living, the movie is bringing Christ into the
equation and not leaving His person, name, or presence out.
I then ventured to ask how that particular concept applied to his upcoming release, “Remember the Goal”; and what, in his own words, was the “specific message to point viewers to Christ”. Or in other words, what “The Goal” was in “Remember the Goal”.
Dave: In making the movie “Remember the Goal”, I try to keep 2 things in mind:
entertain the viewer, and Lord willing, edify the viewer. The
entertainment aspect comes from a story line of how a new Coach trains and
affects her team. This movie has multiple storylines in it, 5 specific
ones, and all are relevant to teens. There are also two lessons for
parents and one coaching principle, that to me, would greatly change the
entire profession if followed. I tried to write a movie that can help
people with some biblical principles for living life. The overall message
of the movie is one Bible verse: 1 Corinthians 10:31.“…whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
This is a life changing verse if applied to one’s life.
It changes all you do, say, even think. And all for the better I might
add. Glorifying God gives a person real purpose in life. But it has to
be the right God. What do I mean by that? You glorify the Father of our
Lord Jesus Christ, that God. The apostle Paul describes God this way many
times in the New Testament.
It is incredible for me to witness first hand the passion for the calling Christ has given this man. He makes films that make a difference. I’ve never met a Christian filmmaker who is in the industry for the money. Perhaps I’ve not been looking in the right places, but from what I’ve observed by getting to know some of these people, to be in the CFI for money you would have to be out of your mind. There isn’t a lot of money in Christian filmmaking, so these filmmakers are in it for the ministry, not the money.
Me: So, you’re releasing your film “Remember the Goal” to theaters exclusively. I know you’ve been vocal about the reasoning behind this on Facebook, but for my readers here would you just take a moment to explain why this film is being released to theaters only?
Also, being that this question is related, would you say that piracy is one of the major issues that the Christian film industry is facing?
Dave: As soon as you release it on DVD, it gets uploaded illegally to YouTube
and other illegal sites. The income loss greatly affects us. We need
sales to survive. All businesses do. No business will survive if their
product is for free. I think everybody thinks film people make tons of
money and that it doesn’t matter. Nothing could be further from the
truth. If this doesn’t change soon, there will be no new films coming out. I am planning theaters this fall and next fall with this new movie, and then do some single night showings in between. I also don’t plan to release it on VOD, for the same reason, because the illegal sites tape them off the screen and do their thing. This could be prevented but it’s up to search engines who could make it so that people can’t get to the illegal sites, which there are many! Lastly, I do have a further plan for the movie beyond theaters, but that is something we are working on for
the future.
I know a lot of you see this issues as a very light thing and I often relegate it in my mind as: it’s illegal to upload, not to watch. However, we are stealing revenue from the filmmakers by watching their pirated films rather than purchasing or renting them. Just a reminder: if we want to continue to see wholesome Christian films being made, we need to support those films by paying $7.50 for a theater ticket, or 15 bucks for a DVD. However, as Dave mentioned, “Remember the Goal” will ONLY be appearing in theaters. I encourage you to go see it and support it. I know we don’t like to hear about pain, about loosing someone we love, about struggles. We have enough of those, why go and read about them? We don’t like difficulty and struggles. We don’t like hearing about ours or other peoples’; it burdens us. But God has a purpose for sufferings, not necessarily for pain(emotional or physical), financial struggles, or stress, but for what they cause us to do: suffer.
Something that might be good for us all to remember is that our Savior was made perfect through suffering. Christ’s example of what a perfect life, of what a good Christian should be was perfected through sufferings. In Hebrews, it says that Jesus was made captain of suffering.
For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
–Hebrews 2:10
This doesn’t mean he destroyed it. Neither does it mean that he champion over sufferings. No, it means that he was put in command of sufferings; they no longer were to be pain for the sake of pain, and hardship for the sake of hardship. Jesus came to give purpose to our pain, to help us see a future passed our fears, to help us find security in sufferings. He is the commander, the captain of suffering; it has been put in subjection underneath Him and He leads it where He wills. Suffering is no longer a punishment. It is no more simply an effect of our actions, but an action to bring about an effect.
Jesus captained our sufferings to bring direction to them. Every hardship we endure in life as Christians is meant to push us towards something not to chase us away from something. Every trial, every tribulation, every difficulty that the world without Christ faces, pushes them away from Him. But Christians, with the Holy Spirit of God living inside of them, their sufferings only serve to bring them closer to the Comforter; to point them to the one who controls their circumstances.
Sufferings are human. But with Christ, fear is not an enemy, sufferings are not despair. Christ has become captain of our sufferings. What have we to fear of our personal well-being? Never should we doubt the capability of our Creator to care for us: His creation.

Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
–2 John 1:8
We sang this morning to kick-off a camp meeting revival in Virginia and I took a lot of this post from the message today, hence the lateness of its publishing. Anyway, here are some thoughts and notes from today’s message. Enjoy.
Sin will rob you of your joy. Like the church at Ephesus was reprimanded time and again for its apathy and loss of heat, Christians have lost their joy and vigor. It’s not how you begin as a Christian, it’s how you end up.
When you love your first love like you first loved it, you won’t want to stay home from church. Love doesn’t wither and die, it only grows. If we keep our first love we will only love Him more and more as the days go by.
Sin can steal that first love from us, not destroy it, never destroy it, but sin can separate us from our first love.
How do we keep our first love and ensure that we do not lose it?
Remember the cross and what Christ has done for you. I haven’t gotten over my salvation because the cross is my greatest accountability. I can’t look at the cross, visualize the agony of my Lord for my sins, and turn away the same as I was. The cross is irresistible. I cannot help but gaze upon the wondrous love of Christ for sinners. I cannot look away from the cross and leave the same as when I came.
You can lose your joy
The joy of the Lord is our strength and many people don’t apply that to our struggles. We hear, trust in the Lord, lean on the Lord, and pray for your needs. However, we need to realize that the joy of the Lord is the strength in our struggles. Trials are fleeting, joy is lasting and enduring. Our greatest weapon against our personal struggles and sufferings is the joy of the Lord for it is the strength of believers.
After the 62 word prayer that brought fire from heaven, in chapter 19 Hillary-, I mean Jezebel wrote a note and sent it to Elijah and he crumbled. This man of God asked the Lord to take his life for fear of Jezebel.
–T. D. Burgess
That note killed his courage and stole his joy even right after the miracle he just witnessed God perform. Even the greatest among us are susceptible to fear and doubting.
How do keep courage and avoid falling into fear?
We are to be filled with the Spirit of God as the disciples on Pentecost. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is joy. Where there is the joy of the Lord there is courage.
Stay in His presence. In the presence of the Lord there is fullness of joy. So, how do we stay in His presence and experience this fullness of joy?
First, we need to ask for it.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
–John 14:14
We need to expect it and believe that He will do it. Then we need to praise God regardless of what happens, knowing that it is His will.
In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
–1 Thessalonians 5:18
If the Holy Spirit of God is controlling your life you will have a passion to witness and to lead others to Christ. You won’t have to go to church, you’ll have to go to church. You won’t have to witness, you’ll want to witness. Why don’t we see revival? The Holy Spirit is in us but doesn’t have control over us. We need to let go of the wheel and let Christ take the throne of our life.
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
–Proverbs 29:18
When we lose our vision we lose our testimony. If we don’t go to church, if we don’t actively witness, if we’re not living with a purpose, why would anyone want to be a part of this church thing, this Christian thing? Without the evidence in you, your testimony won’t reach even as far as your front door. Let Christ out of your house, let Him out of the church. Don’t keep Him locked up and visit him once or twice a week. Let Him out, allow Him to rock the world.
Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.
–Revelation 3:11
If you stop participating, stop being active in your church and in your faith, you’ll lose your reward. Something as simple as a cup of water given in Jesus name and you will not lose your reward in heaven. How simple is that? And yet some Christians will walk away from the throne with nothing to lay at our Master’s feet because they didn’t even give a cup of water in Jesus name.
There’s something burning in my soul that tums and rolaids can’t put out. Jesus loves us! And yet we only talk to him when we want something.
–T. D. Burgess
Unless we forsake all else we cannot truly follow Christ.
Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
–Mark 10:21

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
–Hebrews 1:1-4
This week’s reading in the Bible Book Club was selected based upon a suggestion from Caleb Allen. Hebrews as a book stands out from the rest of Paul’s letters, mostly in the fact that it is written expressly to Hebrews; not Christians in Phillipi or Corinth or Rome. He was writing to the Hebrews wherever they were ion the world. Because of this fact, he needs to establish right from the start who Jesus is. The Hebrew people believed in God, they were His chosen people, but they didn’t know Jesus in the way He wanted them to know Him. Paul starts off by introducing this man called Jesus to the Hebrews.
He starts by establish the revelation of Jesus as being a new revelation and more powerful and important, more significant than the revelation God spoke through the prophets in the old testament. He introduces Jesus as one greater than the angels, this places Him in a rank above mere men who were made a little lower than the angels. Jesus Christ has inherited a name more excellent than the angels for his is above them.
The Hebrews were not to be taught and exhorted in the same way as the gentile Christians, for one, the Hebrew people rejected the deity of Christ. They scorned and spurned their Savior whereas the gentiles, recognising their need for a savior accepted Him with opened arms. The Hebrew people knew about Jesus, but the gentiles knew Jesus. Paul didn’t have to explain Jesus to them and verify His Godship, he merely reinforced that fact. But, to the Jews, the Hebrews, he had to almost pander his messages, teaching them about how their laws fell short of God’s righteousness and how Christ was the fulfillment of God’s perfect law and their only Salvation. The gospel of Hebrews is one that takes many chapters to fully build up to and is a stark awakening for a nation once righteous to the fact that when Jesus comes, everything changes.
America need the book of Hebrews. Our souls need the book of Hebrews. We need to be reminded that our once good works and passable Christianity is not enough to make a difference as servants of Christ. As a nation, we need to recognize that righteousness exalts but does not save. Yes we need to correct the moral status of our country, but we need to be saved from our many sins first, else as soon as we clean up one mess we will create another. There is no change without Christ and there is no Christ without change. We need to realize that. It’s time for a change.
As always, thanks for reading.

Yes, you read that title correctly. The fridge is 30 inches wide and the doorway is significantly more narrow(I didn’t measure). The only alternative was to completely remove on of the side windows and hoist it up and into the bus from there, which worked out perfectly because we were removing the windows to be painted anyway. For those of you who saw pictures of the windows before, they were an odd light bluish color and didn’t match with the gray of the rest of the bus; the reason for this being that they were custom jobs taken out of another coach and installed into ours.
Not wanting to leave them that wretched color, we found a shop to paint them. First however, they had to come out of the bus. The first step was getting up to the windows, for this we thanked God for The Flash(our red, Ford Expedition).
These pictures are slightly out-of-order, but we drove The Flash underneath the window and two of us climbed on top of the van. The way it had to work was that we would raise the window off the sill and place on foot there and the other on the roof of The Flash. We would then lift the window out of the channel and hand it down to the third man on the ground who would hold it until one of the guys on top could slide down and help him maneuver the window into the back of the van.
You can hardly see that funky blueish color, but this is one of the old windows. It almost looks greenish/grey. Well, that one went into the back of the van and then we pulled around to the other side to repeat the process for the matching window.
Here’s what the bus looks like from the outside, looking through an empty window frame right now. It’s sitting in a farm workshop near Dunn, NC where a family has offered to not only allow us to park and work on our bus, but also stay in their home for several days. God is amazing!
Well, the windows went out and came back a nice ebony black color.Which looked a little like this next picture.
We pulled those out of the back, remounted The Flash, and put them in place. Now the bus looks more normal in the front. However, before we put the windows back in, we needed to get the new fridge into the bus. This was about 10 times a tricky and difficult as the windows were. The easy way to do it would’ve been with a forklift, however, we didn’t have one handy and so we did it by hand. You’ll never fully appreciate your refrigerator until you’ve lifted it, by hand up through a bus window.
So, this was the basic objective: lift the fridge vertically up onto the stepladder, get a guy inside and feed it up onto the window sill horizontally, then slowly pull it into the bus and then set it upright. It sounded easy enough, but those things are a lot heavier than they look. It took a lot of effort and strain, but eventually we had success.
Yeah, the bus is a mess right now, but the fridge looks great! Oh, and if you were wondering, it’s not going to stay there. We have a much more convenient place for it, I’m just excited we got it in. The fridge was by no means the most difficult thing we’ve done on this project so far, and it is far from over. But, little by little it’s all coming together.
So, there you have it. If you’ve ever wondered how to get a fridge through a bus window, you just need three guys, a stepladder, and a little faith that it can be done. I think I’m going to call this fridge “Mountains”, that way I can say that I had faith and moved mountains.
As always, thanks for reading, and keep up with me on Twitter and Facebook for more info and pictures as the building of the bus progresses.

I know what you’re thinking, but this isn’t politics, it’s personatics. I’ve heard it said that there are three was to relay private, military information: telephone, telegraph, and tell Hillary. But, despite her many flaws, scandals, schemes, and lies, I’m not here to discuss her politics. I’m here to discuss her as a human being.
Hillary Clinton is a sinner in need of Jesus Christ, as am I. She is blinded by personal greed and selfishness that every sinner faces and I am not passing judgement on her. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, but some people just aren’t safe to be around. What I am about to say is not me judging Hillary Clinton, but I am genuinely terrified of what she may do if she gains power over a nation. Thus: my list of ten things I trust more than Hillary Clinton.
1. A vegan cookbook.
2. A serial killer on his day off.
3. Off-brand soda.
4. The IRS.
5. Barack Obama’s birth certificate.
6. Expiration dates on water bottles.
7. A parachute made of toilet paper.
8. The Book of Mormon.
9. Theology from Bill Nye.
10. Shaquille O’Neil’s barber.
Obviously, I wouldn’t put my faith in any of those things as a preference, in the same way, I would never trust Hillary Clinton as a president. Not simply because of her politics. If she was a republican I still wouldn’t trust her; because it’s not about politics, it’s about people. We don’t vote for the politics we want to become president, we vote for the people we want to become president. Why do you think people say that they’ll vote for Hillary Clinton on no other merit than the fact that she is a woman. Well, I have a slight and possibly insignificant thing to say on this matter: voting for Hillary because she is a woman, is like filling your car with soda because it’s at the gas station. Simply because it is an option, regardless of how absurd, does not constitute it being a safe and healthy option.
Soda will go in your tank; it’s happy to do it. But it won’t get you very far and will cause serious and perhaps even irreparable damage to your car and potentially yourself. It’s not about the fact that she is a woman, and if we are putting men and woman on an equal plain of stature, she is as bad a woman as these men are men. They’ve all sinned, they all stand for things that are a stench in the nostrils of God. The sins of a woman are no more insignificant, neither are they greater than the sins of a man.
You want equality? The ground is flat at Calvary. Everyone stands on the same level, and we are all the same in the eyes of God. Politics, yes they matter when choosing a candidate, but personal integrity and a fear of the Lord are a million times more important. If America stops serving God and protecting Israel, no amount or good or bad politics and no leader can prevent our demise. It’s not about men and women. It’s not about equality. It’s about integrity, and I’m afraid Hillary Clinton has none.
This was a more light-hearted post, but I strongly encourage to study what God says a good leader is before making decisions based on physical appearance or party.
As always, thanks for reading.
